Town elections were held in Savoy on Tuesday, May 10th. The polls were open from Noon to 8PM at the Senior Center on Main Road. Eighty-seven (87) ballots were cast which was 18% of the registered voters in town. There were no candidates running for any of the eight (8) seats up for election. All winners were the results of write-ins on the ballot.
Allen Haskins, whose SELECTMAN seat was up for re-election, won 38 votes with Rita Pierce coming in a close second with 37. Haskins was contacted and confirmed that he did not wish to serve another three years, leaving Mrs. Pierce the definite winner, which she accepted.
Jennifer Therrien received 44 votes to put her back in the CEMETERY COMMISSION, which she accepted for another three years.
Current MODERATOR, Eric Krutiak was again a favorite with the voters receiving 61 votes.
Gale Carlow, owner of the Savoy Hollow Store received 48 votes for SCHOOL COMMITTEE over only 4 votes for outgoing Beth Cote.
ASSESSOR Edwin Wilk agreed to remain in the position he has held for many years having received 59 votes to keep him there.
Don Phinney who has been active with many projects concerning the town park agreed to accept the PARK COMMISSION seat, having received 37 votes.
The PLANNING BOARD, 1 year term seat is still undecided. Debra Kaczowski was given 24 votes, but declined as she was also the winner of the 5 year term position which she was currently serving. Susan Schwartz, currently serving this position was not available for comment, although she had previously stated that she did not wish to serve again. A few individuals received less than 3 votes by write-in votes and will be contacted to determine if any one of them would be willing to serve in this position.
PLANNING BOARD, 5 year term went easily to Debra Kaczowski with 18 additional votes and, as stated, she agreed to remain in that seat. from the Town Clerk
