The Savoy Memorial Day Parade was held today, Monday, May 30. Ceremonies started at 2:45pm at the Soldiers' Honor Roll under sunny skies. Ceremonies opened with a prayer by Father David Raymond. A speech was given by State Representative Daniel Bosely. Robert Haskins, teacher and writer, read a diary from an American soldier in Iraq and selected poems. Music for the ceremony was performed by the Pittsfield Eagles Band. The parade started at Old Main & Rte. 116. The marchers paused in front of the Soldiers' Honor Roll on their way to the Town Park for food and refreshments.
Parade Participants were VFW Ladies auxiliary #996- North Adams, Grand Marshals, Savoy Senior Citizens, Savoy Volunteer Fire Department, The Dixie Cats, Antique Tractors, Sue & Scott Pierce & Bob Sadlowski, Kim Witek and the Lagowski Family, Berkshire Shrine Club, Patriotic Bikers from the Savoy Elementary School and Pony Cart from Missy & Chip Schleich.
The Select Board and the Memorial Day Committee members wish to thank all those who gave of their time and effort to make this a very memorable day. Emile Mazur would like to say a special 'Thank You' to Dick Holmes who for the third year has provided the flags for the Memorial Day Parade. Now for the best part.
