Notes on Select Board Meeting

I attended the Select Board meeting, Tuesday, May 24. Emile said Stephanie Vidmosko would be taking the minutes of the meetings. She has to catch up with the minutes since minutes haven’t been transcribed from tape recordings for several months. Until the minutes are available, I will try to provide a brief summary of the meeting.
There was a discussion about the Fire Department’s Engine 1. It has been difficult to keep Engine 1 up and running due to the age of the truck. Mr. Krutiak and members of the fire department were present for part of the meeting. Mr. Krutiak tried to engage the select board in a discussion about a previous commitment but Peter and Emile could not remember the conversation. Peter and Emile said further discussion would have to be put off until they had the chance to talk with Allen Haskins.
Police Department has received a grant to pay for the cruiser that was purchased.
The Select Board advertised for applicants for the ‘accountant’ position. The Select Board has received four applicant’s resumes. Rita will conduct the interviews for the Select Board.
Emile said the Treasurer (Sandy Brazee) has indicated she will be resigning July 1. When contacted, Sandy said due to a busy schedule she was resigning. She has given 14 years of service to the town. To fill the Treasurer’s vacancy, Emile stated the select board can make an appointment for the first year and then the position has to be filled by town election. After the position for ‘accountant’ has been filled; Rita believes one of the remaining applicants will accept the appointment for treasurer for the first year.
The Select Board will attend a dinner Thursday night. Rita had paid for her ticket. Peter brought up that since Allen was no longer a select board member, Rita should not have to pay and if Allen wanted to go to the dinner, he should pay for his ticket. It was agreed by Peter and Emile, Rita would receive her money back for the ticket The Annual Town Meeting will be held Wednesday, June 8, at 7pm at the Fire Station. There are 24 articles for the townspeople to vote on. Articles 18 and 19 are about Right to Farm By-Law. I am researching the Massachusetts General Laws and Constitution mentioned in the Article.
All Articles will be posted shortly. by Brenda Smith
